The Eiffel Tower is the most recognizable architectural landmark in Paris, world famous as a symbol of France, named after its designer Gustave Eiffel. The tower was erected on the Champ de Mars opposite Jena Bridge over the Seine River on the Quai Branly.
Construction was completed in 1889. The Parisians saw a grandiose structure with three platforms of different sizes located at different heights. At ground level, the tower supports form a square with a side of 123.4 meters. The first platform is located at a height of 58 meters, the second - 115, the third - 300.65 meters. There are two more intermediate platforms between them - at a height of 196 and 276 meters. Initially, the height of the tower with the flagpole was 313 meters, but in 1957 a TV tower was installed on it, and the tower grew to 324 meters. On the top tiny platform, its side does not exceed 1.7 meters, there is a lighthouse. Its light is visible at a distance of 70 km. The deviation of the Eiffel Tower from the vertical, even in the strongest wind, does not exceed 15 cm. The metal parts of the structure (more than 12,000 were used in total) were manufactured at the Eiffel's own factory. They were executed with such precision that they did not require any on-site adjustments. This ensured both the high strength of the structure and the record-breaking fast time for its construction. In total, 7 million 300 thousand tons of metal were used, of which 450 thousand were rivets, of which there are 2.5 million in the tower.
For more than a century of existence, the tower was used as an observatory (the principles of gravitation were studied there), it serves as a television and radio tower (now also a base station for cellular operators). Still, its main value is aesthetic.
Throughout its history, the tower has repeatedly changed its paint color - from yellow to red-brown. In recent decades, the Eiffel Tower has been invariably painted in the so-called "brown-eiffel" - an officially patented color close to the natural shade of bronze.
