The medal is made of oxidised silver 925; the numbers “XX” are gilded. The content of pure silver in the medal is 15.592 g, gold - 0.10 g. Measures 32.28 mm in diameter, 2.87 mm in thickness at the very edge of the medal, and 35.72 mm in height (including the eyelet). It weighs 22.9 grams.
The soldier’s eyes, finger, and rifle, for example, are all visible.
The enamel shows some minor superficial dings and scratches but none penetrating the silver and barely visible with the naked eye. Its double-layer steel suspension is period to the medal.
Between January 1938 and December 1940, 32,127 people were awarded the medal.
In the presence of other medals of the USSR, the medal "XX years of the RKKA" is located after the medal "For the development of mineral resources and the development of the oil and gas industry of Western Siberia."
